IEPs

Every student eligible for special education services is entitled to an IEP—an Individualized Education Program.  The IEP must be based on the evaluation of the individual student.  IEP services are not limited by the category of disability a student has.  All areas of his or her educational need must be met. The IEP is an enforceable contract obligating a school district to provide the services listed in the IEP.

Each IEP is developed at a team meeting that includes education personnel and the parents.  It is intended to be a collaborative process. Unfortunately, parents are often left feeling outnumbered and out of their element, adrift in a sea of “IEP-speak”.

We can help you prepare for the IEP meeting, or attend it with you.  Either way, you will participate in the IEP process armed with the tools and knowledge you need.
