Sensory and Physical Impairments

The IDEA covers children with hearing impairments and visual impairments.  It also covers children with orthopedic impairments, defined as deformities, diseases, or injuries of the bones or joints that adversely affect educational performance. (34 C.F.R. §300.8).

Examples of physical impairments covered under the IDEA include:

  • Bone tuberculosis
  • Poliomyelitis
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Amputations
  • Fractures or burns that cause contractures.

Let our firm help you not only identify, but address the specific needs of your child through an IEP.  We can help you draft meaningful educational goals and any necessary modifications to create a beneficial learning environment.  We can also teach you how to gauge your child’s progress and stay on top of her development throughout the years.  We aim to empower you to become a knowledgeable advocate for your child and to help you get the services and programs necessary to achieve your child’s goals.
